Prof. Tracey I think she makes some valid points that were not lost on me before her post. Especially when she talks about the exposure of the mega churches. Equally important as well as a larger critique is that I also believe that most of our smaller churches have a rather primitive view of the Christian's worth, value and mission to society. I belonged to a very progressive thinking church that was rather small. And I have been in church and involved with preachers all of my life enough to know that far too many are still out for fame and prestige even if its locally. Far too many are compromised and are more interested in "juice" than souls. This is a fact!

At the same time too many of us like that old time religion and prefer a preacher who can put on a show of hemming and hawing rather than telling us the truth about ourselves, helping us to become stronger enconomically and taking care of our children, legacy etc. Its a complicated subject to say the least. I absolutely love the black church and wouldn't trade it for the world. At the same time I am tremendously disappointed and can't stand to be in most services on a week to week based on what i hear from pulpits.

Overall we are still far too religious and not nearly as spiritual, progressive and loving as we should be - therefore lacking direction. We do the same programs, hear the same sermons and are still left behind most of society.

Thank you, PT, for pushing me to stop railing at my computer and TV when I watch this stuff and compose some comments on these two latest antics by my brothers in ministry. Now, back to railing!
