Is This Art?
These photos are from the "fat cars" series by artist Erwin Wurm. I'm sorry, but for Professor Tracey, this ain't art. Don't like this stuff at all. These things look like chewed up bubble gum.
If you like these "fat cars" there is also a "fat house."
Mr. Wurm is clearly a very famous and successful artist, so I will be looking into his other works, but I'm not feeling these hard-ass marshmallow fluff autos.

for me no it's not good art.
looks like he ran out of Good ideas to create.
lolol--they jacked UP! those cars!

see you cannot buy class!
they jacked up these beautiful creations!
lololol
This, I don't get. Is the artist trying to convey a message about American excess and materialism or is it just for effect?
Just...why?
grotesque!
Hi, new blogger on the block. I've been enjoying your articles and the artwork.
These "fat cars" look like they just rolled out of a cartoon.
Just out of curiosity--why is the question for this category whether or not something is "art?" If you don't like it, can't it still be considered "art," just not "art" you get or like? The question of whether or not something is "art" is so dismissive out of hand that you could automatically disqualify a lot of contemporary art that isn't easily comprehended through a random photograph. I love your blog and the frequency with which you throw art into the discussion--given the range and complexity (and humor) of your other commentary, why is art treated like such a joke?
@Carla,
First and foremost, it's just the title of a regular line of posts, no offense to art. It's catchy and attracts folks. Second,. I ask the question to inspire discussion, not necessarily questioning the art.
And I don't think I'm being dismissive of art or treating art as a joke, I've showcased several different artists on this blog. The IS THAT ART posts feature very unusual works that for me, the first thought in my mind is "is that art?" I have liked some of the pieces and some I haven't. Everyone is welcome to sound off.
You need to check my other posts on art. I think I give most things a fair swing. I appreciate your comment though, you raised a valid point.
