Just A Simple Question? - Where Are All The Feminist/Women's Groups On Mel Gibson?

Mel Gibson's shit is all out on the street. He is a certified lunatic, caught on tape spewing racist and sexist slurs and threatening to kill folks. Yet, pro-women and feminist groups have been mighty quiet. Are they waiting until Mad Mel's next film premiere to pounce?

I'm just wondering because I remember how everyone and their mama was calling for the head of Michael Vick for fighting pitbulls. Now I wanted to kick Vick's ass because I own and love pitbulls, but many folks acted like he killed somebody.

Now Mel Gibson goes on a wild screaming rampage and you can hear a rat pissing on cotton from most special interest groups. Funny that.

you're back?

i've seen the groups that i read on a regular comment on gibson at least once, if not several times.

Not bloggers, the national women's groups. I haven't been blogging much lately, but I have been reading the newspapers. I haven't seen one major women's group state two words.

oh crap. those of us on the child custody end of domestic violence groups see this as the most opportune time to talk about what happens in the court system and gibson is the perfect example (alec baldwin is martha stewart in comparison). we've repeatedly asked for women's groups to go into the depth that we know...to no avail.

the silence IS loud

Point made and taken. You are absolutely correct. I had forgotten Alec Baldwin's public terrorism of his own child and his mind-boggling ability to still get visitation rights. Mel Gibson is no surprise, the real surprise is the continuing failure of women's groups to listen to the women in the trenches everyday.
Sigh......

Maybe this whole Mel thing doesn't fit their agenda...wait for a black man to hurt a puppy, then you'll see some action.

I've been writing about how I feel about Mel Gibson's behavior all over the Internet. As a woman who lived with a raging drunk alcoholic for 20 years (and now divorced, thank God), I have been commenting on how Mel is the perfect example of the abusive relationship and its progression.

As women, we shouldn't even have to comment at this evil example of the kind of behavior women all over the world have to put up with daily. It doesn't help to "fight" it. By fighting it and becoming enraged ourselves, we become as Mel: In this world and of it, too.
Let this example teach people to treat others with respect and dignity even in disagreement.

Why contaminate ourselves by being "angry" at Mel, when peace within is what is needed. We, as women, can sit back and watch Mel burn--with sadness--and a hope for change in the world. Why run into his hopeless raging fire?
