Where should conversation on race start?
I came across this article on discussing race in America, why do you think? Is racism here forever or can it be resolved through frank discussion between people? I'm not a very optimistic individual on this subject.

some things can be resolved through conversations and working together...if everyone is on one accord-if everyone comes in wearing truth and wanting only truth in the end. if everyone will admit what their definition of truth is so we can put that on one accord.
too many people want to be slaves and or, better slaves and live in a mentality of lack=blaming others for their conditions.
i feel forward movement can happen on these race issues....for select groups that work at making a difference that will serve everyone that wants it. but all agendas must be laid on the table in plain view so that eveything will can be understood.
if you go back in time prof. as you know, racism/classism has been here since the beginning....if we look at what does not work...then we may find what does.
if God wanted that problem gone He would have done so. i think it is not about the situations, but how we act and re-act to situations and environments that is important--He changes us not the situation. i think once that happens we will be able to make the situations better for many.
now, how long this will take, that is another issue. :)

I'm not too optimistic on this topic myself. To put it bluntly, White ppl need to check their egos at the door. That won't happen since a number of them have this "just get over it" mentality.
It's not looking too good. I think people have to have the conversation with people who are capable--there are a lot of people who would make me reach a point of empass really quickly, because there's no agreement on fundamental things. I don't think much conversation can happen with white people holding views like that Pat Buchannan expoused recently. But I guess there is a difference between a debate and a conversation.

emphatically i say that white supremacy/racism is a treatable disease. it is only pervasive because of the silence that it is shrouded in. whites don't want to reflect or study themselves---they would rather study those that they victimize wsup/rac. and black folks would rather die (and do in large numbers daily) than make white folks feel guilty or uncomfortable.
if the simple true american history was taught in schools and universities and required in order to claim "educated" status for all---superiority due to melanin deficiency would go right out the window.
if the truth about africa and africans was taught in schools---and required in order to claim "educated" status for all inferiority due to abundant melanin would go right out the window.
if the media would cease and desist with the perpetuation of white supremacy...
...reckless sociopaths should be swiftly imprisoned and absolutely not tolerated. the war on drugs should be replaced with the war on racist sociopaths and guess what? i think we would have world peace, too!
i just set us on the right path, right there...
