Reason #354 - Why Black Women Reject Feminist Ideals and Politics

Salon writer, Joan Walsh called her herself defending and I think supporting Michelle Obama during this current GOP "baby mama" smear campaign by Faux news. Her article was pretty decent until she decided to interject her feminist ideals into the situation. She couldn't resist making a job at Obama and ruining any point she was trying to make for Michelle Obama.

Check this out -

"also can't help hoping that Obama supporters who denied Clinton faced sexism, but who are now outraged by the treatment of Michelle Obama, will have new insight into the dynamics of American media and politics, and new compassion for Clinton."

Now, Miss Joan, I don't recall any Obama supporters denying that Clinton faced sexism and I don't recall any Clinton supporters stepping up when racist things were said about Obama. And Michelle Obama has faced sexism from her first day on the campaign, just like Hillary Clinton, where was the outrage then?

I find it interesting that white women are thinking that Michelle Obama is now "suddenly" facing sexism because Hillary is gone now. Check out Maureen Dowd. And how about this from one, "NOW’s president, Kim Gandy, said her members would remain alert: “We’re going to keep watching because we think Michelle Obama will be the recipient of the same kind of attacks that Hillary was.”

"Will be the recipient?" Ya think? Ms. Gandy? Stuff like this is one of the many reasons that so many black women reject feminism. Black women know that when folks are hollering about sexism and sexual harassment, they are only really talking about white women. Black women know that we are only an after thought in issues like this one.

Thanks for helping prove it, Joan, Kim, and Maureen.

You Got It Wrong Gloria! - It's Black Women Who Are NEVER Front-Runners!

I am still simmering with anger over Ms. Gloria Steinem throwing black women under the bus....again! Whenever anyone wonders why black women reject feminism, I always wonder does that individual have any grasp of women's history. Things have always been cool in white feminist world, when black women never expect to have their issues or concerns come first.

We put in the same work side by side, but when the chips are down on an issue regarding gender or race, white women always pick gender, completely and conveniently forgetting that for women of color, the issue is always much more complex. Did Ms. Steinem even bother to consult or discuss her views about the 2008 presidential election with any of her female feminist colleagues of color or does she have any feminist friends of color left after using them up in the 1960s and 1970s?

SISTER! Your foot's smaller, but it's still on my neck! - Pat Parker

And to my sistas of color out there that are fighting everyday to make the world better for women and girls of color, you are a feminist whether you like it or not! You don't have to take my word for it, Dr. Renita Weems said it better than I ever could and so did Nichelle at Anovelista.com.
