Why White People Never Learn Anything!
The editor that was responsible for the above cover story about the Tiger Woods and lynching comment controversy has been fired due to the negative responses of their readership. Once again, white folks get it wrong. The white woman that originally made the dumb remarks gets a two-week suspension and the white editor that reports the truth and confronts his readership about racism in the sport of golf get fired. That makes absolutely no sense at all!!!!
The poor readers of Golfweek clearly don't like the sport they love being exposed as exclusionary and racist. Unfortunately, that is a large part of the history of the sporting golf world. It's not that black folks don't play golf, we have a long history of playing golf. It's the fact that the sport of golf still remains as one of the great majority white arenas where black people can be excluded with impunity.
How are white people ever going to learn to stop making racist statements if all they ever want to do when these type of incidents occur is sweep it out of the public eye as quickly as possible? This incident and others should be shoved in their faces and they should be forced to have a real and open dialogue about their racist views and language.
