Why White People Never Learn Anything!
The editor that was responsible for the above cover story about the Tiger Woods and lynching comment controversy has been fired due to the negative responses of their readership. Once again, white folks get it wrong. The white woman that originally made the dumb remarks gets a two-week suspension and the white editor that reports the truth and confronts his readership about racism in the sport of golf get fired. That makes absolutely no sense at all!!!!
The poor readers of Golfweek clearly don't like the sport they love being exposed as exclusionary and racist. Unfortunately, that is a large part of the history of the sporting golf world. It's not that black folks don't play golf, we have a long history of playing golf. It's the fact that the sport of golf still remains as one of the great majority white arenas where black people can be excluded with impunity.
How are white people ever going to learn to stop making racist statements if all they ever want to do when these type of incidents occur is sweep it out of the public eye as quickly as possible? This incident and others should be shoved in their faces and they should be forced to have a real and open dialogue about their racist views and language.

What's even worse is Tiger's indifference. It's to be expected from him though.
Something's really wrong with those ppl. Taking that kind of action against the writer is ridiculous.
Professor Tracey,
Yep, this doesn't make any sense. In fact the whole thing makes no sense.
The woman that made the statement must be a total idiot if she didn't know the lynching reference would be offensive.
Tiger not being offended is weird but par for his course (pun intended).
And now this, like I always say; race in America is a series of never ending problems and misunderstandings.
Thanks for providing a wee bit more info on this story.
ESPN was on all day yesterday here at my house, and I found myself agreeing with the commentators who blasted the magazine for its insensitvity in choosing a noose for the cover. I too was miffed.
But now I discover that the noose on the cover (though still a bit tasteless, IMO) was the editor's way of calling attention to a larger expose' inside of the sport and the bigotry that lingers in the sport. Whether the editor was fired/reassigned because of the tastless cover shot or the fine investigative article inside-- is not clear. Probably both.
@Dr. Weems
I thought about it later and the cover is tasteless, but I was so blinded with anger that all black and white folk want to do is suspend or fire people and nobody wants to talk about the real issue, our continuing and growing racial intolerance and our collective tone deafness about race relations in this country.
@MDC and Jersey Bred
I get madder at Tiger by the minute. Someone is going to have to challenge him openly about his indifference, not that it will change him, but make it less comfortable for him to be so quick to forgive racial incidents with a real thought.
