This is the highly anticipated cover featuring a black man on the cover of Vogue for the first time? This photo is absoulutely terrible. Is Lebron James attacking her or posing with her? What in the hell was Vogue thinking? He looks like some giant sea monster attacking the defenseless white woman. This photo does not celebrate the awesome "shape" of Lebron James, it exploits it.
A judge has ruled that Michael Vick gets to keep his 20 million dollar bonus. I never thought it was fair to go after money he had already earned and been paid. Che might think different, but hell, he's a pitbull after all.
"I want people to understand everybody makes mistakes ... I truly think a person's character is determined by their admission of their mistakes and beyond that what they do about it ... It's really about looking forward, looking to the future, how can I make this wrong a right."
I didn't get to see Marion Jones on Oprah's show today, but I was encouraged by the comments she reportedly made on the show. As I stated on previous posts, I am not upset with Marion Jones going to jail in addition to losing her medals, money, and reputation. With that said, I am completely and utterly behind her campaign and quest to rebuild her life and her reputation when she completed her prison sentence. I believe that she has already started taking steps in the right direction.

Marion Jones was sentenced to six months in prison today. She should count herself lucky. She lied and she cheated and today she has learned what the price was for doing that. Please spare me the crocodile tears for Ms. Jones. She has a husband, children, and family that loves and supports her. She has a college degree from one of best educational insitutions in the U.S. She is beautiful, charismatic, talented, and intelligent. Marion Jones is going to be just fine.
If you want to support Marion Jones, get ready to greet her with open arms when she gets out. Send her a letter or an e-mail and let her know that the black community still supports her even though she stumbled and that we as a community support her rebuilding her life, her career, and her reputation.
Stop making excuses for her, it just does not fly. Next summer at the 2008 Olympics, college track star and 2008 Olympic gold medal favorite Allyson Felix, will have to suffer through questions and comparision to the fallen Marion Jones instead of just enjoying her moment in the sun. Marion Jones has made it harder for every single black female track athlete competing now and in the future for at least the next 20 years!
Marion Jones hurt a lot of people, not just herself. Every young girl that believed in her and admired her. Athletes that missed their opportunity because she cheated them out of their chance. Not to mention the money and fame that she achieved through dubious means.
Stop comparing her case to white people that got off or saying that her public embarrassment is enough. She took the money and the fame, she can take the time. It is easy to be proud and supportive of someone when they are at their best, it is harder to be proud and supportive of someone when they are at their lowest. I still love Marion Jones and I look forward to her return!
I am really tired of Tiger Woods shrugging off responsibility and issuing free passes to white folks that use racial slurs against him, particularly comments that are derogatory to black people, just because he can socially and economically afford to ignore racism.
Golf Channel commentator Kelly Tilghman is currently apologizing instead of packing her office and looking for a new job, after remarking during a telecast that today's young golfers should "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley."
Of course, good ole Tiger readily accepted Miss Kelly's apology just like he did when Fuzzy Zoeller said at the 1997 Masters Tournament - "That little boy is driving well and he's putting well. He's doing everything it takes to win. So, you know what you guys do when he gets in here? You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and tell him not to serve fried chicken next year. Got it." Zoeller then smiled, snapped his fingers, and walked away before turning and added, "or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve." Tiger was quoted as saying he thought Zoller's remarks were funny!!!
Are cartoons such as this funny to Tiger as well?
I'm not asking Tiger to be a race man, but would it kill him to just ONE time say racism is unacceptable and such word usage whether intentional of unintentional is flat-out wrong? Is that too much to ask?
Word came down yesterday that Michael Vick has entered a prison drug treatment program that upon successful completion should reduce 1 year off his sentence. Now, after I posted that disgraced track star Marion Jones should go to jail instead of getting the probation she desires, I find that my view of Mr. Vick is quite similar. Why is he getting this break and so quickly? I can imagine that prisons are filled with average, everyday brothers with serious drug addictions beyond that weed Vick was smoking. Sounds like another rich and famous black athlete is getting over.

Disgraced Olympian Marion Jones is hoping for probation in her upcoming sentencing for lying about steroids and check fraud. She is claiming that her "public disgrace" is enough punishment. I say baloney! I was a big fan of Ms. Jones and I remain a supporter, but I'm sorry, she's got to do some time. She enjoyed the fame and the money as long as it lasted and she lied for as long as she could get away with it. If she wasn't famous, she would be in jail already. I admired her hearfelt apology and I will truly respect her if she takes her punishment with the same dignity.
