It kills me when I hear white folks talk about being "scared" of an Obama Presidency. How many people of color have been "scared" during the ENTIRE Bush Presidency? How many people of color are equally frightened of a McCain Presidency? Considering that people of color make up 46% of the U.S. population and that the majority of them are voting for Obama, I would say quite a few folks are dreading the McCain/Palin ticket.
And when one considers that McCain and Palin are making absolutely no effort to even campaign for the votes of people of color that only intensifies the fear and loathing of a McCain Presidency. Not to mention the GOP's rancid and completely bogus attempts to demonize minority homeowners as the catalyst of the failing U.S. economy. That's right, folks that didn't pay their mortgage on homes in the hood destroyed the banking system of Iceland and forced those executives at AIG to need a $500,000 retreat.
And how exactly does John McCain put the race card genie back in the bottle if he manages a miracle and wins the election? How does he see himself serving the people of color he ignored and vilified during his campaign? Does he say he was wrong and apologize or does he pretend that he never did these despicable things? I'm not going to forget and I can't imagine I am alone.
Not only is John McCain frightening because of his willingness to abandon any kind of principle or moral ethic to gain whatever he desires, but he is damn scary with his completely tone deaf and utterly clueless sense of perception and perspective. With his campaign under fire for race-baiting tactics and racist rhetoric, this dude says he is going to "whip" the "you-know-what" of Barack Obama at the next debate. Did this Dummy Lamont see that a white man using such language about a black man could be construed in an extremely negative manner? Is he serious? Is McCain planning to bring his own horsewhip dipped in pickle brine or borrow a cat-o-nine tails from a slavery exhibit at a museum?
And McCain's running mate Sarah Palin scares the daylights out of me. She tells bald-faced lies with unblinking ease and without a hint of remorse or reflection. She is not well-read, well-traveled, or well-acquainted with the rest of the United States. And like a cherry on top of a sundae, she gleefully accepting of her ignorance. She celebrates her lack of knowledge, experience, and understanding. And that truly is scary!
Has Sarah Palin addressed a predominantly minority group of voters since she was selected? Has anyone asked her about her view and record on civil rights and affirmative action? And what exactly does she mean by "hockey mom" and "joe six pack" - who the hell is she talking about? What exactly are Palin's thoughts on race in this country? I know she's cool with African witchdoctors, but what about poor ass Black and Latino folk? And when in the hell is someone going to ask about how much Sarah Palin's extreme views on religion, abortion, and education are out of step with the views of urban America?
And I definitely need someone to ask what role Palin thinks the "first dude" should play if she gets elected. Clearly from the Troopergate reporting, Todd Palin was running around Alaska as if he was elected co-governor and Sarah Palin did little to stop him. And considering that this uneducated cat was a long-term registered member of a political party that wants to seceded from the United States, I find the thought of him anywhere near the White House absolutely horrifying.
Yes, this black woman sees a lot to be scared about - I see GOP people!
