Is This Art?
No artist name, folks, sorry about that. I think this is very interesting, but is sand sculpture art? Folks who do this really put in work. I love how "alive" this piece seems to be, not to mention the detail. This creeps me out a bit, but I like it all the same. What do you think?

Yes it's art. That's an amazing rendering and really hard to do with sand. I saw a basketball mounted in a box encased in glass with some dirt scattered underneath at MOMA with a $5K price tag so if that can be considered art then so should this.
Yep, I'd call that art. I don't like it and I agree that it's creepy but only a sculptor with skill and talent could create such a work.

i do love sand art.
it is sculpture. sand has been used as a medium for creating art for many years. in fact it is used by some sculptors to make metal sculpture - the lost sand method.
i like this one--it's very surreal!
as aofb said, it is a difficult medium to work with as it has to be not to dry and not to wet. trial and error teaches the sculptor.
i hate the way society has to put an outrageous price on everything.

Whoa, another thought-provoking piece. That really took skill. It is creepy, but someone probably saved a lot of money and time that might have been spent on a therapist by creating this awesome work of art.

It's 9ft x 6ft x 6ft.
No, it didn't win anything.
I was looking for a raw emotion. It that is disturbing, so be it.

Great work, Bert. It kinda looks like Joe the plumber. You absolutely captured the raw emotions I felt for this man 3 months ago. LOL
Art is subjective. It doesn't have to be appreciated or win an award to be classified as art. It's an interesting piece nonetheless. The artists says he was going for "raw emotion"--He NAILED it.
Most "art" is unknown, under-appreciated, and undervalued...as are the artists.
