Things I Hate About Hip Hop....

Since I am teaching my hip hop course this semester, I am always surfing the news for the latest info about rap music and hip hop culture. I came across this little gem –

Meet Mr. Pierre Sarkozy aka Mosey. Apparently by day he is the son of the current president of France, at night he is a hip hop producer and rapper in the group, Da Crime Chantilly. What does this privileged son know about "crime" and I didn't know "Da" had a french translation. What has hip hop done to France? What has hip hop done to itself? The son of the French president thinks he's gangsta and he's using Ebonics? Sigh......

Well, at least he's a better dresser than all the gangsta rappers I know. Snappy suit, there. LOL

Being the president's son should have some benefits.

Oh don't remind me of vanilla ice...

I am probably hip hop's #1 critic, but to be honest, I feel protective of it too. It irritates me to no end to see white dudes like Eminem make it big in hip hop -- when I could throw a rock out my window and hit 5 black boys with better rhymes than him. Call me prejudiced. I'll try to get over that... someday.

"...and then they found elvis..."

it's a repeat. whatever we do, they want to prove they can do better.
and it's greed. 'pimping' young folk (pick a color) like these corporation do, it'll all fall...one hit wonders.
no, i do not care for the kind of rap that m&m fits into. drama king. no talent at all. well. conning.

now i love me some chuck d. and a few of the older groups. rap never grew on me as other styles of music did.
