Michelle Obama Makes Newsweek Cover

Check out the Newsweek cover story on Michelle Obama online or pick up a copy of the magazine. I thought the article and interview was pretty good. I believe if she gets the opportunity Michelle Obama could truly be a ground-breaking first lady. I believe she will inspire a lot of black women to new heights just by her presence. What do you think?

I'm happy for Michelle and Barack, too. They have my vote. But, just last night, Michelle said that "for the first time in her adult life, she is really proud of her country." Comments like that can be seized upon by opponents. She should've just said, "I'm so very proud of my country" or something like that.

Hi Shirley,

I know what she said and its folks making a big deal out of nothing. Black people are going to have a very different view of the world than other people. Folks that were complaining about her comments were saying she should have been proud of America during the Cold War which is absolutely ridiculous considering that black folks were being denied basic civil rights during that period. For a lot of black people being proud of America means something very different.

uknow, if she gets in the white house as first lady and not on a tour group-that Alone will be ground breaking!

Anything that she does while in there will be extra! :D

awwww, if she sings the alphabet song or the campbells soup song--they will find something wrong with it...lol

people will always talk about what you do or say no matter if it is good or bad!
my gpa taught me that and it is so true. he always said, just live for God and do good to your fellow man and do not allow offenses & insults to confine you in a prison of self-hate and you can do no wrong. Amen!

let them talk--that is all they have is empty words and self-hating lives...(people been talking about me all my life!)

you can't kill off hate with hate!

I think that she will be an excellent role model. Frankly I would have preferred for her to be running.

Hi Professor Tracey, I totally know what she meant. During the tragedy in the Gulf Coast, I was mortified, embarrassed, and definately NOT proud of the U.S.

What I'm proud of in the U.S is that a grassroots groups can make some noise and suddenly they move mountains and change entrenched paradigms (civil rights, women's rights, Obama's candidacy, etc.) It's an amazing thing and I"m proud that America is built for that kind of change. But, for sure, it's taken some effort for me to look at our history and say "I've always been proud of the U.S."
