Watch Out Now - When Old-Ass R&B Divas Attack!

Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul is mad as hell at Beyonce for referring to Tina Turner as the "queen" at the 2008 Grammy awards. Poor Beyonce, she didn't know. The last time Aretha Franklin looked good was back in 1993, singing at a special celebration for brand new President Bill Clinton. That was the same night some white folks got to tripping over the Queen's mink stole because it was real fur. You never tell a black queen what she can and can't wear.

First Natalie, now Aretha. I can't stand to see my favorite artists act a fool (Nas with "Nigger" shirt comes to mind).

And Tina is the Queen of Rock and Roll last I checked. Aretha needs to simmer down.

Hi Professor Tracey & Anonymiss,

I agree with Anonymiss about that loser Nas. But I think the situation with Aretha Franklin is not as it seems.

I think Aretha is protecting her income. People know her as the Queen of Soul, and I'm sure she uses that in her bookings for advertisements.

So coming out publicly to state that that title belongs to her, I believe, is just protecting herself financially.

I think Aretha is overdramatizing the situation. Everyone knows that she is the Queen of Soul. And who pays attention to Beyonce anyway? She's very talented but she's not known for being the sharpest nail in the toolbox. She might not have realized that her words would start a controversy. She was probably just gushing over Tina Turner.

What? We can't have more than one queen? Gimma break, Aretha.

There are quite a few Black Queens and Goddesses, both past and present, in the music industry.

What about Patti Labelle, Dione Warwick, Billie Holliday? Kathleen Battle, one of the greatest coloratura sopranos of our time, is also called 'queen' on a regular basis.

I am disappointed in Aretha's childish behavior.

I think many people tend to forget that those shows are scripted.
If it's such an issue, why spazz out over Beyonce and not the writer who wrote those words?

Just as Mary J. Blige is considered the Queen of Hip Hop, Tina is the Queen of Rock and Roll, not R&B - Aretha should know that.
What better way to get attention than thru controversy...
