The Double Standards of White Folks
What I find most interesting about the major drama that white people, particularly white men are making about Barack Obama's former and now retired Pastor Jeremiah Wright, is the fact that these people are not satisfied with Obama distancing himself from Wright, condemning Wright's statements, and making one of the most important and challenging speeches about race in America, no they want Obama to destroy and eliminate Wright from existence.
Last night, I watched right wing media pundit Pat Buchanan twist and distort the 30 year career of a man he does not know personally, a man he knows absolutely nothing about except five minutes of spliced clips, taken out of context from years old sermons. When he was told that he needed to may be attend a few black church services to learn more about the black church tradition before being so judgmental, he shrugged his shoulders and shouted that "he knew all he needed to know and he didn't need to learn anything else." Wow!
I love the double standards that white people exist under. If anyone who is not white makes statements they cannot understand or do not like, they are righteously indignant, angry, sickened, and shocked. They question people's patriotism, their religious beliefs, and their personal character. And they will not settle for anything less that complete and total destruction of the individual they feel has wronged them. Whenever these incidents occur, I am always fascinated and enraged at the same time.
I am fascinated and enraged that white people have such short memories. Was Don Imus that long ago? How about Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly who offend practically everyone who is not white and male on a daily basis? And don't get me started on Miss Ann Coulter. How about Trent Lott getting misty-eyed over the Jim Crow segregation heydays of Strom Thurmond or good old boy Jesse Helms, still dangerous even on a Lark scooter.
And what about all the white preachers that blamed everyone, but the U.S. government as responsible for the tradegy of 9/11? Remember these brilliant gems of wisdom -
"...throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad...I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America...I point the thing in their face and say you helped this happen." - Jerry Falwell, remarking about the 9/11 attacks
"Well, I totally concur." –Pat Robertson, agreeing with Jerry Falwell's remarks about the 9/11 attacks
And how about McCain's endorser, Reverend John Hagee on Hurricane Katrina; "All hurricanes are acts of God because God controls the heavens. I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God and they were recipients of the judgment of God for that." - John Hagee, blaming the victims of Hurricane Katrina
Sounds like selective memory to me. Two wrongs don't make a right, but don't throw rocks when you live in a glasshouse either!

Whites believe there is a double standard for what they are allowed to say and what blacks are allowed to say (like some whites think it's racist to have "Black Entertainment Television" or the "Black student's association" or something like that.
Many white don't get that they are 80% of the population while blacks are about 12%. I think these lop-sided numbers mean that "double standards" like the hateful comments made by white preachers are perceived as "not as bad" as comments made by a black preacher.
It's funny because when Obama first hit the scene, I thought he was a "shoe-in" because he wasn't a "fiery Reverend" along the lines of Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. Then, when these clips of Rev. Wright showed up, I had a horrible sinking feeling.
Although I want this to blow over for Obama, I feel like if Bush's "Spiritual Mentor" believed that HIV/AIDS was caused and spread by blacks or that blacks were the cause of 9/11, I would question Bush's judgement hanging around people who felt this way. On the other hand, my dad's said some pretty volatile things that I disagree with but I love him anyway. Conclusion: Americans aren't sophisticated enough to deal with this now, Democrats want the white house, Hillary Clinton will win the nom, and Rev. Wright will be credited for destroying Obama's candidacy.

Did Mr. Hagee go on to state that hurricanes, which are created by God, follow the exact same path of the African slave trade?? You know, since he wants to bring God into it. NOOOO, he did not, as many Whites don't! Talk about a selective memory, hypocrisy, all of that!
I went to school in New Orleans (Dillard), so I lived there for 4 years. I didn't engage in whatever sinful activities he's talking about. I just like many of the locals there, just went to school, work, an occassional basketball game or step show, and that's it. It was and is mainly the WHITE tourists that engage in that behavior. You don't hear about those kind of behaviors during Bayou Classic or Essence Fest do you?
But, to get back to the point of your post, it's funny that these pundits you speak of, like you said, will not stop until the person that has said something they do not like is practically ruined and hiding behind a rock.
I get tired of the word 'patriotic' anyway. Don't get me wrong, I feel blessed to be in a land as bountiful as America, but really, was does 'patriotism' get you (esp. us, Black people, Black women)? It won't get the government to save you when man-made levees break, or when the sheriff is coming to evict you/foreclose on you, or you're in the hospital with no insurance. It seems that the only people that throw out the 'patriotism' word is those that do not and more than likely will not suffer the indignations I listed above.
Damn straight! ooo, this just makes me so mad
all of this 'ring-around-the rosey' talk and hatred is nothing new.
they have been doing this for many years, and it will not stop.
how you allow it to affect you is the point.
venting-getting it out and moving on to continue to beeter yourself and to learn to love yourself as we are to. to love each other as ourselves.
God belongs to everyone that wants Him!
whites (not just in america-they are not from here) have used skin color for years to segregate people-they have always felt they were above everyone-that will not change. they love money and prestige more than people or themsleves--that thinking has leaked out into the minds of blacks and every other culture around.
what they lack and see in other cultures they steal-or assimilate to their benefit. all through history they have done this. it's nothing new.
all this time and energy spent on politics and skin color is such a waste. we are not who they say we are-but many have believed their lies and passed them on through generations. to the point they seem like the norm.
oppression is oppression-
the caste system is all over the world-everyone is dealing with skin color, class, gender issues all over the world.
have been and will always do so.
one person at a time has to change in order for change to be widespread.
americans are very intellegent...unfortunely, greed, selfishness, hate- mainly of self promotes the divisions.
when you do not allow people to love themselves that starts all of this other mess.
they will have to answer for all they have said and done-everyone will in the end.
if they were so great they would not fear us or any other culture that has a different color skin.
funny how people that want to spread hate always miss the parts of the Bible that talk about love and acceptance and to celebrate the differences that God created.
no one has invented anything on this earth that was not first God's idea.
no one can take credit for anything without giving Him the glory and the praise for it. though they try-
-they try to take God and use Him for all of their mess--God is for everyone that wants Him.
let them talk...it will not change what has been pre-destined for obama and clinton.
most of the time things people like them say Always come back on them quickly..sit back and watch...you'll see...
