Democratic Party Beginning To Worry About Racial Divide Within The Party...And They Should Be!
In typical Democratic party fashion, they are late on the upswing again. At the 11th hour, party officials are worrying about the effects of Hillary Clinton's racial rhetoric directed at Barack Obama on internal party politics. Further, it's just starting to dawn on them that if the super delegates give the nomination to Hillary there will be a monstrous black voter backlash against the party. I'm sorry, but hello, the writing on the wall with these facts happened over two months ago.
Hillary lost me when she and her supporters seemed to forget that black women have dueling perspectives in this difficult world. Also, her negatively going after Obama's former pastor while counting on Obama not to mention old Billy boy's past indiscretions, I find to be extremely problematic. She also seems to be pandering to white voters as if black folks don't matter. If she gets the nomination, will black folks continue not to matter then as well?
Black folks are already non-believers about the criminal justice system, I believe this primary campaign has the potential to turn black folks into non-believers about American politics.

Hello, I am a first time visitor and fellow blogger of color. I was lead to your site by Invisible Woman and then this cartoon was what held my attention! I just had to post on my site (with proper credit of course). I agree with you assessment of the strategy of Clinton's campaign thus far. An unfortunately the media is a knowing and willing participant in the execution of her tactics. We might need some divine intervention on this one.
People forget how many black people are behind Hillary. This picture is disgusting. It implies that she is against blacks when she is in fact not. The smear message against Hillary needs to end and the election carried out within the policy. Making ridiculous claims is not going to change anything.
It's so ironic that black Americans unconditionally embraced the Clintons (especially during the impeachment). And THEY return the 'love' by staying off the issues and staying on Obama's pastor and Obama's comments about bitter, small town whites clinging to guns and church in the absense of real jobs and real change.
BTW, during those clinton impeachment hearings, I was probably one of few black Americans that believed HE made his bed and that HE should lay in it! He knew the climate in which he was president and he still decided to act out his horny middle-aged man fantasies on OUR dime! And I NEVER understood, for the LIFE of me, why he was 'the first black president.' I was so out of the loop on that one, too.
I think the Clintons played black Americans so very well all these years (solidifying the most loyal of democratic constituents.) And they think they can use these tactics and we'll stick around because who else do we have...McCain?
Not every black person supported Clinton during his scandal, many were disappointed, but believed that the country was in great shape and that the fuss was pointless. That is a lot different than the blind support you are implying.
Further, Hillary has ran a nasty, race-based campaign. Facts is facts. If she "knew" black folks so well, she would have known that black people were not going to reject the pastor and keep her mouth shut, she didn't do that. She bashed him and Obama. She said nothing when her pal Gloria Steinam bashed women and made racist statements about black folks that decided to support Obama.
Further, let's talk about the comments made by Geraldine Ferraro. She left her post, but she's not gone. And Bill Clinton's comments have been repeatedly racially tinged and I have not forgotton how he smeared Sister Souljah.
Not to mention, everyone is pretty sure that her campaign is behind the quiet release of the Obama photos in KENYAN dress, not muslim.
You don't have to make anything up, Hillary has done a good job all by herself.
Professor Tracey,
I MISS you on the podcasts. Please start your own! I know you're busy, but I really miss you're common sense combined with your intellectualism.
