Hip Hop Generation Activist Rosa Clemente Named As Cynthia McKinney's VP On The Green Party's 2008 Presidental Ticket
Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney has selected activist Rosa Clemente as her vice-presidential running mate. This is a ground-breaking pick for a campaign that too many will overlook. Check out Clemente's biography and her website.

I went to college with Rosa Clemente. I'd have to wonder though, what is the purpose? At this point, we may as well support one of the major candidates. Although Bob Barr can split the conservative vote if he wants to, LOL.
This is great information to know, I have read some of Rosa Clemente's work and of course living in the ATL I have had much contact with Cynthia McKinney in the past. I love what each of these ladies stands for.
@lormarie, sounds like you are saying to for the lesser of two evils, in such case you are still voting for evil!

I wasn't advocating voting for her, but people should be knowledgeable. And taking someone from the hip hop generation and movement is a serious move toward hip hop folks being taken
seriously as adults.

Enjoy your blog. Thanks for coming by.
I agree with a lot of what Rosa Clemente has to say, she is very intelligent and in touch what is actually going on in the streets. But I really wish she would drop the whole Hip Hop politics thing, she is better than that. I know Hip Hop USED to be a very political movement, but its just not anymore (at least not in America). Violence and drug culture have high jacked it. When some people think of Hip Hop, they don't think of KRS One, Public Enemy or Slick Rick. They think of clowns like T Pain, Lil Wayne and 50 cent. Americans don't have the knowledge or sophistication to differentiate between the many faces of Hip Hop.

Nah. Neither Obama nor McCain are evil as far as I'm concerned. It just so happens that one is a little bit better than the other. Both are a lot better fit as president than Clinton or McKinney, IMO.
@Professor Tracy--I didn't mean to imply that you were endorsing McKinney. My comment was actually directed at McKinney and Clemente. At this point in the game, it makes more sense for them to get behind one of the candidates. America isn't ready for a third party.
Niama,
Agreed on all points. I think we have a lot of cleaning up to do in hip hop before using it as a political platform. In fairness, Rosa does appear to be aware of the problems within hip hop culture.
This is groundbreaking news.
We need diverse voices. We need Black women out their fighting for our place politically. They are just following the tradition of Sojourner Truth, Barbara Jordan, Shirley Chisholm, Carol Mosley Braun and a host of others who were also not considered 'contenders'. When have Black women EVER been voluntarily held in high-esteem that didn't involve a stereotype? I am grateful to them for their efforts. What part of political power will ever be handed down or passed off to Black women just by virtue of them being Black women and it being a positive thing versus something that has to be overcome? Maybe if Obama gets elected and one of his daughters decided to run, but I haven't really seen any examples of Black political families grooming the women of the families for power yet. So for now this is it. The Green Party is a major party in Europe so this is GREAT!!!
I think the Green Party was smart by having the most ridiculous ticket ever so noone will vote for them, therefore, having a place in the elections but not interfering with the Dem ticket.
look Barry is a non-entity. At least Cynthia has been on the front lines since forever. and, as far as Rosa is concerned, she is new to me, but seems quite intelligent. Barry has lost his base anyway. These two will pick it up. and then Hillary will be back in the race shortly.
The honeymoon is over for Barry
