Team USA Basketball Slams China In Olympic Opener...But Defensive Weaknesses Exposed

Team USA looked great on offense versus China, except from the 3-point line. They looked terrible on defense in the first half in terms of 3-point defense on the Chinese, who kept the game close in the first half with a barrage of threes. This weakness with defending the three is going to be a problem with better teams. And more than one player looked like they should not have been on the team in the first place, Jason Kidd and Carmelo Anthony. Kidd looks slow and Carmelo just looks lost. It's definitely not on lock that Team USA will win the gold, but with Wade, Bosh, James, and Redd looking really, really good....our boys will be tough to beat.

i agree that kidd did look bad. the story goes that he had been sick...at least that's what he said, and he didn't sound all that great when a reporter spoke to him during the womens game.

i got lightweight scared at the beginning when yao hit that three...and then they [china] were like 7-11 for 3 pointers in the first quarter alone. i'm glad the US got themselves together.

i thought coach K could have done a slightly better job with his player rotation, especially when they were up by a significant amount. he needs to get some of the younger guys (like prince) in games when they are up, so when and if he needs them later, the guys aren't totally dry.

but i care more about the women's team anyway :-)
