He Coulda Been A Contenda! Detroit's Embattled Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Finally Gives Up The Ghost And Resigns!

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's political career finally and officially crashed and burned today with his agreement to enter into a special plea bargain. This is a sad and predictable end to a career that started with such excitement and promise. Kwame Kilpatrick could have accomplished amazing things for the city of Detroit, but instead he chose to be nothing but a zoot-suited, Stacy Adams wearing, womanizing, corner-cutting, political hustler.

He has left the city entrusted to his care in a horribly disorganized and dismantled state. And that is unforgivable. He lied and kept lying until he could lie no more. And that is unforgivable. He has damaged future opportunities for other young black politicians, whose youth will always garner comparisons to his failed regime. And that is unforgivable as well.

I will never understand how some black politicians can be drawn so quickly to the dark side of politics. Unlike like their white colleagues, black politicians know that the stakes are high and when they fall from their positions because of corruption and mismanagement that it effects all black politicians negatively and really harms the people they are supposed to represent.

Shame on you Kwame Kilpatrick! The people of Detroit trusted you!
