Venus And Serena Williams Take A Stand Against The New Rules Of The World Tennis Association
The World Tennis Association are attempting to force Venus and Serena Williams to play at the Indian Wells, California tennis tournament that they have boycotted since 2001. The Williams Sisters have boycotted this event due to the negative treatment the sisters received when they last competed in the tourney.
Since the William Sisters stopped playing the event, Indian Wells has suffered, lost sponsorships, smaller attendance, and limited television viewership. The WTA and Indiana Wells needs the Williams Sisters to may that event fly. Now, the WTA has made it mandatory for all players in the top ten to play at Indian Wells or face losing points and money, which results in losing important seedings in events and overall ranking. Despite these facts, The Williams Sisters are still refusing to play.
I say good for them. Even if they change their minds later, I am proud that they are making the WTA sweat. The WTA should have supported them more in 2001 and now because they need to pimp their skills for the success of their tournament, they are changing the rules to force them to play. They may be in charge of the rules, but the Williams Sisters are clearly in charge of themselves.
