Government Starts Waiting List For Digital TV Converter Coupons - Do Americans Really Have That Many Old Ass Televisions With Rabbit Ears?

I think a lot of folks are misunderstanding the purpose of the converter boxes and who actually needs them. It's a little hard to believe that so many folks have that many old ass televisions in their homes, but then again, my mother has two ancient 13 inch televisions and a 19 inch television with push buttons and a remote that looks like a garage door opener. So, who knows what kind of televisions are lurking in the homes of average Americans.

I didn't always have a tv in my bedroom, but now that i'm single i do.. sigh. but i decided to keep it cable free so I need a coupon. I ordered one and when it arrives I can hopefully still get a converter box for $4.98

I have two tv's in my apartment and have never owned cable (thank god for netflix :) so when this whole Digital TV switch came out, I made sure to get my coupons. So yes, there are still people who have ancient TV, lol.

Hi Professor Tracey,

Yep we are out here. My TV is about 5 years old, not really ancient but not new and requires a converter box. I got my coupons in June.

By the way DTV is such a scam! I really believe the cable companies and the government is conspiring to get people like me, who refuse to pay to watch TV, to get cable. DTV reception is astoundingly bad! But I'm still not going to pay to watch TV.

@Kim - $4.98? My coupons were for $40 and I ended-up paying about $20 for my converter box. If it should have been $4.98 let me know, I'll demand a refund! I still have my receipt. lol

Happy New Year Professor Tracey!

I got a Radio Shack circular in December that advertised the converter box for $44.98 and in the ad it stated with the ($40)coupon you only pay 4.98 plus tax.
Of course I didn't have my coupon at that time, so hopefully I can still get that deal when my coupon arrives. Luckily I requested one before they ran out. I live in Atlanta.

Kim,

I bought my converter box at Radio Shack, so I'll see if I can get some kind of refund. Thanks. :)
