How Good Was Reverend Joseph Lowery's Inauguration Scene-Stealing Benediction?

It was so good that the right wing nutzos are besides themselves and that fact is like putting an extra large cherry on a perfect hot fudge sundae. Check out Glenn "I hate minorities and women" Beck and Brit "I lied about my racist ass retiring" Hume on Presidential playa-hating Faux News.

Only folks like Glenn Beck would object to acknowledging the LONG American history of racial discrimination against minorities on the day the first minority President is sworn in. Beck represents the kind of folk that Obama was talking about, the kind of folks who will NEVER let go of their racist ideals and beliefs.

And because this particular series of Lowery's words pissed off the right wing-nuts so badly, I gleefully repeat them here. Enjoy!

"Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right."

Clutch pearls!! The bennediction has definitely been one of the most talked about parts of the inauguration. I love it!

My reaction to the benediction: I laughed, uncontrollably. I knew it was bound to piss some folks off.

I thought that section was AWESOME and funny. My coworkers thought it was great, too. It just felt inclusive and, dammit, someone needs to speak plain about race sometimes! Gladly, as a minority, I think we are more free to do this.

I so hit the mute button on Warren, but Dr. Lowery was too cute! I'm mad he didn't get some kind of assistance at the podium...

Speaking of pastors, I do wonder where the Obama's will end up to worship.

I figured people on the Right would be grumbling about this, but if anybody was going to just come right out and really say what was on all of our minds, then it had to be Rev. Lowery. Good for him! I had such a feeling of pride when I recognized the lyrics to "Lift Every Voice and Sing." If anything, Lowery's use of the song (and his hilarious conclusion) places old folk sayings in new contexts. For many black people this is the first time they've been able to express pride and joy in their country - why not celebrate that!?!

i say let all who want to be upset BE! i'm tired of the complaining about the changes!

if some people don't want to change-then don't--but please stop whinning about the changes that we are within.
it is useless to me--like trying to stop winter from changing to spring!
This is Not in our hands. It is-what it is-and that is all!

They are just upset because All of these black people do not look like b-e-t pimps and hos--no b-e-t _itches here! (well i over look bouncy girl like she was not even there).

america has never seen this many black people that can dress, speak, look, act and re-act in such an appropiate manner! see this is what happens to people when they overlook And ignore the truth! they turn around and TRUTH is standing right in their faces shinning!

where they come from? i'm sure many are thinking!

We have been right here the whole time fool!
If they see us they have to acknowledge us--and that is what is going on!
STEP out out the BOAT people-And Show Yourselves!

you know jesse was saying- i coulda made a rhyme like that-but they didnt ask me! lol

2 Thoughts that I'll keep from Inauguration. Rev. Lowery "Lift Every Voice" passage and 2 Million of us, 0 arrests. Yes We Can. Yes We Did.

I have no problem with what he said he's earned his right.

People need to get over it and enjoy this breather we have to actually have someone 'listen' to what a Black man and women have to say.

i agree cinco...at his age and through his experiences, HE HAS EARNED THE RIGHT! there are so many more important things to be upset about. did they also get upset that the freakin' chief justice didn't know the constitutional oath?

I was at a training when I was watching it and loved it! Everyone in the room applauded happily and even the white folk agreed that it was good that it was said.

That, needs to go on a t-shirt.
