You're Wrong On This One, Ms. Etta!

I love Etta James. I waited all day hoping she would issue at statement saying she was joking or that she was wrong, but that never happened. I understand the anger and frustration she may be feeling about Beyonce getting the spotlight with President Obama using her signature song, but Ms. Etta James is way out of line on this one. She owes both Beyonce and President Obama an apology.

She was asked to perform and she called in sick, it's not Beyonce's fault that she was there to fill the spot. Ms. James has lived hard and it has worn on her body, it's not the first time she's missed a golden opportunity because of her health. If she wants to blame anyone, she should blame herself.

And as an elder who has survived the worst of the music business, it is absolutely terrible that she attacked one of the most successful young black women in the industry. Beyonce has done nothing but show her respect and keep her name alive for another generation. Ms. James should be grateful instead of throwing stones.

Etta has always proclaimed her self to be a brash type of sista alot of folks can't stand Beyonce she just said it publicly. Beyonce and her clamor for the spotlight greed wanted to sing at the inauguration and she would so bad she went a happin until somebody finally asked her and I would be you my good hair peice it was the Obamas. They ask for Yo-Yo Ma and Izahtk Pearlman. Someone finally call Beyonce's greedy tale to the carpet. She won't say much about it because whe only know adjectives beside once Jessica Simpson who is not fat by the way drops a few pounds this will be old new..

Yeah, gotta agree with you on this one Professor. I saw Cadillac Records, and I felt Beyonce gave deference and Humanity to Etta's character.
The problem with the Elder generation, they feel that they are noting getting there due for the sacrifices that they made for this generation.
This is the case with Civil Rights folks, Business Community, Sports and Education.

I wonder what Glen Miller said when he heard Etta singing his song AT Last in 1944?

It is at best unfortunate... I have never been a Beyonce fan musically speaking - but I would never say a foul word about her. Of course she is ambitious and that's cool.

Like Huggy Low Down said on the TJMS this morning - Etta betta be glad that Keyshia Cole didn't play her in the movie or sing the song at the inauguration cause if Etta would have said something bad about her like that her and her sisters would be looking for Ms. James right now for some fisticuffs!

Etta James is stll not fully healed and despite what is say about Beyonce, she is still getting paid for her song.

I thought she was so out of line for this. And crass and classless.

Yes, Ms. Etta was wrong. Welcome to the age of camera phones and newfangled audio contraptions. What you say no longer stays in that room for very long. After what she said about Obama it doesn't seem like she would've considered it an honor to perform that evening. Bey performed @ one of 10 official balls. If he wanted Etta there or if she wanted to be there they could've made it happen.
