We Have NOT Come A Long Way Baby! - In Post-Racial 21st Century America It's Perfectly Okay To Depict A Latina Judge As A Pinata

Wow! Being a history professor it's damn shame that the old saying remains so true, that those that refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeated it. We've been here already this year with racist cartoons. Remember this? -
Damn!

I glanced at the shot quickly and thought it was a lynching. So it could have two meanings pinata and lynching.

Are you the least bit surprised? I'm absolutely shocked that it should take this long for a cartoon such as this one to appear.

SMH, but anyways. You'll see editorial cartoons that will mostly make sense while the rest, such as the examples you posted, are something else.

And here's what's just as bad:

The intended message of the cartoon? Republicans want to have an honest discussion of Judge Sotomayor's qualifications, but Obama turns it into this spectacle that panders to the Spanish-speaking population (thus Obama in the "Mexican" hat and Sotomayor as the smiling Piñata) and invites the "Liberal Media" to watch the Republicans beat up on Judge Sotomayor...simply because she is a woman of Puerto Rican descent.

And, since Obama is a popular president with the East and West Coast Liberals, the GOP dissenters can't be as "frank" (IOW, use bigoted racist and gendered language) regarding Sotomayor's lack of Supreme Court qualifications.

Also note that the state of Oklahoma in 2008 was the only state in the country where McCain carried every single county in the state.
