A Quick Open Note To Brother Cornel West
Dear Dr. West,
How in the hell can you accept an BET Honors Award for Education from a network that has spent years dumbing down and degrading the black race? Instead of celebrating the best about black people and black culture, BET works overtime to spread the absolute worse stereotypes of the black community.
Haven't you spent the last 25 years working as an educator and public intellectual to uplit the race? And now, you are willing to toss that work away by supporting BET, Debra Lee, and Reginald Hudlin, who have shown nothing but contempt for the very people you have worked so hard to educate and celebrate? You know BET is not right! You know BET is not doing or achieving what it possibly could if it's managment really cared about black folks.
Get some spine brother and tell truth to power.

This just proves that he and his fellow edutainers are fame whores just like all the rest of the Black Elite Establishment. HE got paid by BET he was on that special Hip Hop vs America
There's a difference in my opinion, between real leaders and people who are just talking a bunch of crap to get paid. I think of people like Cornel West and Michael Eric Dyson as people who like to pontificate about a whole lot of stuff but when it comes time to put their money where their mouthsare, they just fall in line like everyone else. So we shouldn't expect more from them.

These are not principled people in the way that we think of principled people. Cornel West (and Maxine Waters and Tyra Banks for that matter) don't dare buck BET. To do so would be like shooting themselves in the foot. And BET, by handing out awards to these folks, are saying "Professor Tracey who? WAOD who? RJWeems Who?, etc."
Here's hoping the black women students at Princeton will be waiting for Professor West on Monday when he gets into his office.

I wish I could say that this surprises me but it doesn't.
I think most of those that consider themselves to be the voices of Black America are just out to get paid.
Oh and to get a little face time whenever possible.
Why is he getting an award for education when he has only taught at Ivy League universities? He has done nothing to teach the masses who go to public universities. Jeffrey Canada from Harlem children zone should get this award. Unfortunately since BET is the only black channel (TV One is still new and doesn't go in as many homes)black celebrities have no where else to go to get major air time and thats all they want is to be on TV

they (the people you speak of) talk too much for me and are saying nothing. using big words that the masses wil not understand.
they are trying to impress the whites in academia so that they 'fit in'.
but an angel told me once,
that wearing a suit will not make them accept you or include you.

You know, Princeton is about 20 minutes from my house. I am seriously considering driving over there to ask Mr. West some questions. I'm not kidding!!

I wish TV One could shine like BET. Cathy Hughes gotta find a way to get that channel into more homes.
