Reason #336 That China Never Should Have Been Awarded The Olympic Games
China has revoked the visa of American athlete and Gold Medal winner, Joey Cheek. The interesting thing is Mr. Cheek is not competing, he is a winter sport Olympian. Cheek was going to the Summer Games to support the athletes that are members of the organization that he founded, Team Darfur. The organization works to raise national consciousness of human rights violations in Darfur and China is up to its neck in maintaining the current situation of blight and hopeless in the Sudan.
Now, Joey Cheek is my man. He's from my adopted second home of Greensboro, North Carolina. He's the true definition of the gentlemen athlete. Cheek is dedicated to his sport and his education. He is also a humanitarian. He actively protests against the horrific situation in Darfur and he puts up his hard-earned money for the same cause as well. He also has no problem being a role model for others.
When he won the gold medal, he kept a promise of going back to his hometown high school and sharing his victory with the students there. Mr. Cheek attended Dudley High School, a predominantly black high school in the city. He stepped up for those kids and they greeted him with open arms as another one of their famous alumni. He's a hero at that school and it's well-deserved. He also made monetary donations to the school as well.
It's a damn shame that Cheek will not be at the Olympics. He represents what an Olympic athlete could achieve with the fame and money that comes with winning a gold medal.
And on a final note, when I think about how much more money the members of Team USA Basketball have in comparison to Joey Cheek, I wonder how many of them are members of Team Darfur? How many black athletes period are members of Team Darfur? It just kills me that white athletes are more down for causes that affect black people that our own black folks.

I think a lot black athletes give back, but the media doesn't cover it. I have heard about some good things Alonzo Mourning has done, and Dwayne Wade too. I just think they stay away from political issues.
I didn't say that black athletes don't give back, but what is the point of giving if you have to skip "political" issues? In many cases that is where their voices would be most effective.
And what exactly is considered political for black athletes, I have discovered that nearly everything is political for black athletes.
And for every Alonzo Mourning and Dwayne Wade, there are at least three Adam Pacman Joneses.
"And for every Alonzo Mourning and Dwayne Wade, there are at least three Adam Pacman Joneses."
Amen
i read about the chinese revoking visa's and entrance into their country.
i never felt good about the olympics being held there. they are phony and cunning and it is all a rouse to try and make us think they are good people.
they are a mess! stopping people going through their bags looking for your papers...
guurrlll
iknow i will not be going to visit there. nothing i want to see there bad enough to go through that craziness....i can go to a couple of american cities to be treated like that. for that-don't need to leave the country. lol
and when i read the headline that they keep saying = it is safe for the people/visitors there! they are making a point to make sure that we know this---redflag!! something is up if you have to keep saying that...
China is a terrorist sponsoring state, one of the main reasons why places like Darfur and Sudan are the way they are currently. Everything about these fools hosting an Olympic event just reek of irony in the worst sense of the word. But, of course, they are just trying to prove that they can be as imperialistic and evil as the empires that came before them --every country gets a chance to screw over Africa in their own special way.
The Chinese are terrified of losing face. They're convinced that some big protest is going to pop off. I am too, but Cheek wouldn't be behind it. That doesn't seem to be the way he operates. I've followed his career for a while now and dude is a class act.
