How In The Hell Is The WNBA Letting The Houston Comets Franchise Fold?

I think this is absolutely stupid. How do you let your greatest franchise team fold? Why didn't the WNBA make their struggle to find new owners for the Houston Comets more public? How about making a public offer for the city or the fans to purchase the team? This seems so typical of women's professional sports. It's always close up shop first before exhausting every possible avenue. And I don't believe the WNBA President, if Houston is a troubled market, the WNBA is struggling.

does cynthia cooper have the money? because that would be my pick. they have some big players on their squad; how are they now going to fit in the scheme of things on other teams that already have "stars?" just pitiful...

This is whack! I got up on the WNBA during the Comets reign as Cynthia Cooper did her thing for 4 rings. I even read her book! Her, Cheryl and Tina ran that league for a minute.


Stern is always on the radio talking about how the WNBA is succeeding and getting stronger every year. It seems like yesterday there was a new team every time you turn around. To let the Comets go for women's hoops is like letting the Lakers and Celtics go for the men.

Hell they need to get rid of the LIBERTY if its all like that. Those yearly underachievers!

The WNBA does a horrrid job marketing these teams. I believe they model the marketing after the NBA which has a bigger base and ready made product.

WBB fan and season ticket sales are based more on a community organization scale that starts with the pubic schools, colleges etc. College WBB has figured this out and market to every group it can find to fill seats. Senior citizens, girl scouts, FBLA, etc. The WNBA also does a Horrid job in tv advertisements. I can NEVER tell when the damn season starts until it is half way over. NBC is playing infomercials on Sundays and they can not broadcast one game..............jeez louise

Living in Durham, NC we used to go to Charlotte and watch games, but if they thought I was going to drive to Washington and or Atlanta watch a game they were sadly mistaken.

At this point if the league is in that badof shape, they shoud do like high school. Play the girls game in the same area right befoer the men play, Lights are already on - that should cut some costs....

I hate to say it.... However, if the WNBA was composed mostly of Swedish-blond-model, or Playboy playmate types, they wouldn't lack for attendance, or emphatic full-spectrum marketing. See Tennis, and the hype around some of the "pretty" white girls as an example.
