Luke Russert Sucks Big Time And MSNBC Should Fire Him Now!

As much as I can't stand that David Gregory got the plum Meet The Press job, I am royally pissed every time I see Luke Russert's smug face on television. He is completely unqualified and inexperienced for the job he was given (not earned) at MSNBC. White nepotism at it's absolutely best.

This dude just got his undergraduate degree last year. How many long-term interns and long-term young journalists (with masters degrees in journalism) did he leap frog to get his position? How many hard-working folks of color who have been hoping for their first break did he surpass? Luke Russert is the poster boy for why the racial playing field will never be level. Guys like him will always get opportunities that are not available to everyone else.

Perhaps you are right Luke doesn't have the qualifications necessary. I don't think he did a bad job of primary or election coverage. I'm not sure I agree with you that he is the 'poster boy' though. His dad was well liked and respected. I don't think it was due to race that he was accepted. I don't think there's anything wrong with receiving lattitude in your desire to succeed because of whom your mother or father was. My children have benefited in some ways based on this same premise. Is it right? Maybe not. I'm sure Malia and Sasha will have many opportunities in their futures based on who their parents are and what they have become.

Sorry Cinco,

Name one minority journalist on television because their father was "well liked and respected." And since when because your father died is that a qualification for you to get a job regardless of your education, experience, and overall qualifications?

And whiteness has everything to do with it. Chris Wallace, Willie Geist, Tucker Carlson, are all sons of media folks. They are terrible on the air, but they are working.

And Russert is equally terrible. They are making up segments for Russert to be on, prove positive he was only hired for his name instead of his qualifications.

What about all the black journalists on MSNBC and NBC that have toiled for years and earned the right to those prime slots Russert got during the election?

The state of diversity in mainstream journalism is criminal, the hiring of an white, male, inexperience, unqualified, 22 year old in an instant on-air position is a slap in the face to every single minority journalist that has worked hard to get the education and experience required to get a job like Russert was just handed without earning.

I will never respect that!

Don't get it twisted, Russert does not have the patent on getting positions based on who daddy/mommy was. Glenda Lewis sits on a anchor desk due to the fact that momma sat in on her interview and she is a 'space cadet'. Need I add KK, Ford, Jr., Colemen Young Jr., Monica Conyers to the list.

Sorry JD,

Apples and oranges. Russert was inserted into a major mainstream news network with no credits, no nothing, but a name. He's set. What minority journalist has received this kind of placement at 22 years old?

Sure these things happen every day but its the kind of thing white people turn a blind eye to while whining about affirmative action. Hypocrisy at its best.

Luke could be the most talented person in the world but thats not the point. If this was a person of color they would be crying about reverse discrimination.

It is why there is no equal playing field. We don't have Tim Russerts as daddies. Meritocracy is a myth.

For every affirmative action program white people have five different ways to make sure they stay on top.

Oh no Prof, didn't you know only "niggas" get AA! And it should be banished right? Just ask Ward Sellout-Conner or ArmWEAK Williams!

In tribute to you (with proper attribution) check out my post on Luke and his daddy.

Thanks for this I wrote a post about why we are long overdue for a national news Black anchor while they were still pondering the MTP post and mentioned this hiring as an example of white man's affirmative action. Now Gregory. This is sooo pathetic. Everyone should write the News Division President and the CEO of NBC Universal.

ROFL!!!

What did folks expect from this so-called MSM? When was the last time the MSM actually did news? It's getting to where I can't even stomach the local news.

I'm still supporting Luke'a attempt at a job. We don't know all the facts. Perhaps he interned there or something. I think the frustrations and anger is misplaced. My daughter and Luke went to the same school (Boston College), graduated this year in May, she was friendly with him but not friends. Perhaps like her he had a job promised to him. My daughter interned 5 yrs @ United Technologies with the promise of employment upon graduation. Now there she sits in the finance department of the real work force. She's been making more money than some adults I work with for years...
Another daughter graduated in 06 from Clark Atlanta with a degree in journalism. She's work in Atlanta, Boston and now Philly but not quite in journalism she prefers inner city poorly funded community organizations as her choice for employment.
I'm biased I know. I feel if there are children of journalists out there that have degrees and are affected by the plight of Luke, and they want the job they should investigate how to obtain it.

You hit the nail on the head with this one! I have a Masters in Journalism, internships under my belt and have been looking for my big break for AWHILE now....And all I needed was to have a parent as a national news figure to get where I needed to go? Sheesh. I could've saved THOUSANDS in loan money!!! Nepotism is one of my prime arguments in favor of affirmative action.
