Obama Picks Arne Duncan For Secretary of Education

Not the choice I was hoping for, but he seems to be an interesting pick. Read up on Mr. Duncan, here, here, and here.

hey pt,
i truely hope that obama will trash that 'leave every child behind' mess of a program! it's a piece of _hit! that stinks to high heaven!

it does not work--no matter how you tweak it--it Will not work--it needs to be trashed and something NEW put into place..

the people who make these rules, guidlines and laws that the school districts and teachers must follow need to first give the $$ it takes to impliment said program--and next--come by for a visit and looksee!

they have no clue what it takes to be a teacher or admin in public schools. no idea at all.
esp if their kids go to private schools.. which have their share of problems also. since they also must follow fed guidlines to a point.

i hope this mr duncan will listen and not talk to much when it comes time to determine What do the schools need and what is best for the students--ALL students.

ok, stepping off my soap box now! lolololo

Now, back to your regular schedualed program!
lolo

Who were you hoping for? I would have loved to have Geoffrey Canada in that post.

Brother Komrade -

Excellent suggestion! I didn't even think of Brother Canada. He would have never been picked. Too radical and foward thing. Same problem for my choice, Rhee from D.C. - she's not perfect, but she's pissing people off and scaring the hell out of them to WORK. The education system needs to be shaken up!

Greg Palast calls Obama's choice of his basketball buddy Arnie Duncan for Secretary of Education as his "Your doing a great job Brownie" moment!
Mr. Duncan is not even an educator! Like Joel Klein, our Chancellor in New York, he is a lawyer!
Palast says Duncan is a great proponent of teaching to the test, and No Child Left Behind, and that he has changed Chicago Public Schools 'from bad to worse!' Very sad news.

You can read about it here:

@sevenofnine -

I think I agree with you. And I didn't know he had never taught. Obama needs to learn that lawyers can't fix everything! My disappointment grows with this choice!
