Professor Tracey Highly Recommends The Films - The Station Agent And The Visitor
I love films that feature complex characters who live complicated lives. Actor and director Tom McCarthy is the great talent behind the films, The Visitor and The Station Agent. I loved The Visitor so much that I bought it the next day. And ladies, both films feature some lovely man candy with Bobby Cannavale in The Station Agentand Haaz Sleiman in The Visitor.

I liked The Visitor, but when I left the theater I thought to myself, "It still has that thread of the 'noncultural _white_ person' being enlivened by the vitality and culture of the other. Something about that bothered me, as good and complicated/real of a film as I thought it was.
@On to something better -
I don't disagree with your assessment, but I took this view of it. Many white folks do walk around in a state of ignorance about the rich cultural lives of people different from them right under their noses. I think it contributes to their struggle to understand and relate.
They already value (over-value)what they do or enjoy doing, that's why it's an "enlivening" experience when they are exposed to something else. When we are exposed to something in their world, it's not because we have become dissatisfied or jaded about our own thing, we often don't have any other choice but to make the best of it in situation were we are out-numbered.
Lastly, Mr. McCarthy is a talented director, but he's also a white man
lurking and learning about other cultures and people with his view from the camera.
I have a copy of The Visitor and I love this movie also. I guess I'd better get a copy of the Station Agent to see what is all about.
I remember really enjoying The Station Agent a few years ago; now it looks like I'm going to have to add The Visitor to my Netflix list! Thanks for the recommendation.
If you haven't seen Slumlord Millionaire I highly recommend it. I'm waiting for the Day the Earth Stood Still this coming weekend.
