WTF?! Are they trying to dumb it down for folks who can't pronounce "SciFi"?
You're kidding right?
Lol, it's sad but I do understand (I think) what they are trying to do. They are hoping to tap into the younger generation by changing the way they spell "Sci-Fi". I only say this because I see the kids/teens with shirts and gear with things spelled in this manner. If this is what they are doing, they need to know that even if they attached the Jonas Brothers of Llyod to their stations logo, it still would not attract that demographic.
Since I first heard about the change via your blog, despite my being a SciFi fan, I thought I'd share with you something funny I read else where about the change at Whatever.
** I think they might have picked a better name. Apparently one of the motivating factors to change the name from “scifi” to a phase-changing-vowel-filled homonym was to have a name that was trademarkable and extensible, and it seems no one else in the world actually uses the word “syfy” for anything. Well, except Poland, where the word is used to identify crusty, scabby sexually transmitted diseases, and no, this is not a joke. (from Whatever)
