March Madness 2009 - Tennessee Lady Vols Go Down In The First Round Of NCAA Tourney For The First Time In Many Years

That just about kills the women's tournament for Professor Tracey. I am a die-hard Lady Vols fan. I knew they were going to struggle in the tourney, but damn. I will continue to think extremely bad thoughst about UConn - I can't stand them! That's right, I'm talking about you, Geno!

i feel your pain. i was feeling some kind of way last night. i understand that the team is young, but they could have had a better showing...there was a lot of sloppy play on their part. oh well, i guess i will have to go with my two next in line: rutgers (c. vivian is one of the greatest coaches along with kay yow and summit) and maryland. the lady vols have a lot to do in the off season...but on the real, you have to give porchia her props; she played a great game.

and i agree with you on geno...he's a major reason why i can't stand uconn (but darn if they haven't had some awesom players throughout the years).

They had a down year after taking it last year. They'll rebuild and probably return.

It's hilarious to me how we have the same taste in teams. I too love the Lady Vols... from way back in the day pre Holdsclaw! Read both of Summit's books and think the story of how she refused to have Tyler in the state of Virginia is one of the top sports rivalry stories of all time.

I too hate Geno's smug I am better than everybody in the world look too. The Final Four is in The Lou, so I plan to check out the free practices just to heckle him.

Go Vols! Sure do miss Candance...

Go UCONN!

I'm thrilled our arch enemies are down this year...whew!

Now if we can just stay healthy and make it to the end. And are you serious? Somehow Geno is worse than Pat? Please.... I don't recall hearing about him being so pissed at the UCONN's performance that he didn't even let them shower. Pat should be in the front of the line to take anger management classes.

down with Geno - go ACC. I love my Duke girls, but they are in the same bracket with UCONN (argh)but hey, this is why they play the games................

Cinco... Pat can be radical... I was short on my comment but speaking to your point when Pat was pregnant, her water broke while she was in virginia, and instead of going to the hospital she ordered her plan back to knoxville while she laid in labor so her son would not be born in the state that housed the virginia cavaliers... you remember back when dawn staley played... the plane hauled it to the max and she was blessed to make it. Pat also one made her team use the visitors locker rooms for games because they didn't play like they deserved to be in their own.

what i love about her most is that she is always trying to get better... she has sought out the best in the business including nba coaches to help her be a better coach... this includes going to Geno in the early days. She went to phil jackson and tex winter to learn the triangle offense just for chamiqua holdsclaw cause she felt her game would benifit in that system.. and even with all of the crazy things she does to make statements to her team, she is always asking questions of herself like, "was i too hard on her today?" i love people who are aggressive and confident but humble enough to self reflect.

i was really done with geno when he got into it with rutger's former player cappie poindexter. to me he had no business talking to her unless it was friendly rivalry kidding which I see coaches do from time to time.

@bbgcmac -

That's not radical, that basketball. Other than the baby thing, Pat Summit has always raised women's basketball to be more like the men's game.

The real story was she made her girl stay in the Tennessee Men's locker room for several weeks because she thought they didn't deserve to use their new and much nicer locker rooms. I love that!

I hate UConn because they use the same old cycle of players. Role players surrounded around 1-2 real talents. Five passes before you shoot crap. Remember Rebecca Lobo, great in college, horrible in pros. He has had tons of players like that. Geno uses players he can control, not coach.

He would have NEVER had a player like Cappie Poindexter because she was a so=called "street baller" - hard to coach. I hate coaches that only want a particular kind of player. He has had no near the variety of athletes that Vivian Stringer or Pat Summmit have coached in their careers.

Prof.,

Radical for me wasn't a bad word.. like you said it's B-Ball! I love her motivational tools too.

Hey did you hear about the one where one of her players... forget who it was... but she talked about how they would try to sneak and do some party or whatever and how Coach would always find out about it... who was there and how long etc. Well quite of few of them partied a little too hard and they come into practice and Pat (while saying nothing unusual) puts large trash cans onto all four corners of the court and two in the middle. They proceed to do running drills until each and every girl puked last nights liquor. How good is that?

And Poindexter? Streetballer? BALLER! First time I saw her was in the state finals when she led Chicago Marshall to the championship. I took my now 22 year old daughter to Normal Il, where they had the tourney then for a daddy/daughter weekend. I have known Dorothy Gators Marshall coach since 83,

(when they used to beat my girls HS team East St. Louis Lincoln with Tina Hutchinson - parade player of the year who balled at San Diego St. and gave Cheryl Miller the BUSINESS her freshman year but got into trouble and didn't keep her head straight after a knee injury -sorry i ranted but so dissappointing cause she was bad assed on the court)

- back to Cappie I thought Cappie as a 9th grader was as smooth, talented and poised as any player ever to play at Marshall and they had a bunch! She is still one of my favorite ballers period. She just has IT! I know you know what i mean.
