The Dumbing Down Of America Continues - Reading Rainbow Cancelled After 26 years

The cancellation of the amazing show, Reading Rainbow does not jive with the repeated claims that America offers the best education for children in the world. A show such as this does not get cancelled due to "lack of funds."

We have money for tripe like Jon And Kate Plus 8 and Big Brother, but no money for Reading Rainbow. We can show people how to treat each other like crap seven days a week, but teaching children to love books and reading is unimportant. Only in America.

If we pay our cable and satellite bills but don't support PBS or demand support for the Children’s Television Act (CTA), we must accept the consequences.

"Idiocracy" slowly coming to reality.

What gets me is all of the BS about family values and caring for children. We actually very little to support either. It seems to me that the US is destined to be a society of automatons.

Now this is some bulldung! I grew up watching this show, and upon reading your blog, I was hurt and disappointed. Yet another sign that this country is quickly spinning out of control (and it's not Obama's fault).

Reading Rainbow cancelled! Wow! Lavar Burton did a great job with it and I hope some other channel like TV 1 will pick it up.

I grew up watching Reading Rainbow in the Caribbean... that's really sad and shows the state of our education system.
