Words For Warfare

“Women, you can have it all - a loving man, devoted husband, loving children, a fabulous career.” - Jada Pinkett Smith

What about lesbians and heterosexual women who don't want to be married or have children? Can they have it all too?

I remember the firestorm of controversy that erupted when she made these comments at Harvard.

blkseagoat -

You are so right, but I try to appeal to all kinds of women with the words for warfare. So, today is for the married sistas with kids. And the gay married sistas with kids. Could you imagine how much folks would have screamed if she had said devoted partner?

Jada no longer has a fabulous career, when was the last time she did a movie or TV show. She stopped working as soon as she married Will. So I wouldn't take advice from her.

Not true Naima, Jada has worked on some big pictures since she has been married to Will, you need to check her recent bio. She is also currently directing her first feature film. She also has done children's books and tons of charity work, not to mention her music career. I wouldn't mind her life at all. It seems pretty nice.

I'm not saying that Jada isn't wonderful, but her statements imply that women who don'twant that can't have it all.

It also bothers me that she predicates completeness on being with a man.

I will have to co-sign though... I wouldn't mind her life either... especially the part about being married to Will Smith... lol

Don't blame it on Jada, Black SeaGoat. In this society a woman is considered incomplete without a husband and children, no matter how great her career or education. I'll be the first one to celebrate when that perspective changes.

I know... Jada isn't responsible for it... And in the context of the full speech she was actually encouraging women to celebrate themselves for who they are.

No doubt Jada has a fabulous life, I just thought she wasn't having any issues with balancing work and family because I thought she dropped her career for her family. Apparently she has just been doing other things.

It is easy for her to say when she is married to a wealthy man. LOL. Romance (with kids) without the finance is a nusiance. LOL.
