When Did Forcing Two Immature Teenagers Expecting An Unplanned Baby With No Education And No Jobs To Get Married Become A Christian Family Value?

So this is how white folks cover-up unplanned teenage pregnancies in their communities.....with shotgun weddings. Two teenagers who know a little something about sex except how to prevent an unplanned pregnancy, are now being forced together in the two most difficult jobs in the world, spouse and parent.

Neither teenager has a high school diploma or a job. Which one of their parent's houses are these two children and their unborn child going to live in? Which one of their parents is going to pay the medical bills for the pregnancy?

Not to mention one of the potential grandparents has suddenly become extremely famous by running for the second highest office in America, so everyone and their mama knows that you only got married because the girl got knocked up. Sound like a solid start toward marital bliss to me. And what a lovely way to bring a unwanted child into the world.

Ah...the beauty and logic of conservative Christian family values....

People have to realize that Palin has a VERY good chance of being commander and chief. I don't see her as a VP candidate I see her as a possible future president.

I don't think people care what they do as long as they don't show up at the welfare office.

If Sarah Palin can become president, then Repulicans are just as stupid as I've almost always believed them to be.

This woman can'T govern a tiny state like AK or stop her teenage daughter from getting her ass waxed, but she's gonna be president. Yeah right.

PT, I wrote this post with you in mind: A Bastard By Any Other Name Just Ain't Quite the Same

Jamie Lynn Spears didn't show up at the welfare office. She kept her baby and she plans to get married too. They still ripped that child a new one.

Palin is being set as the new rock star/style of GOP leader.

Naima,

Alaska is a welfare state. 75% of it's economy is derived the the US gov't and AK would cease to exist if it soleley relied on block grants in proportion to its population.

And it doesn't matter whether or not Bristol the hoe and her hoeish baby daddy show up to the welfare office. You can't tout family values as a party platform when you, as a canddate, can't manage to uphold and apply those values to your own family.

If you look at the history of christianity (especially in this country) it is replete with examples of such behavior. Of course when you don't believe in birth control as many Christians don't then this is what you get. I'm not sure why you put "white folks" under this label though when teenage pregnancy certainly exists in the black, christian community as well.

@classical one,

because no one talks about bad parenting, living on and needing welfare, and lack of morals when the unplanned pregnancy is a teen-aged white girl, but when it's the black girl that's the argument. That's why white folks is in the title.

Not to mention all the talk of celebrating life and choice, when the girl is white and this is never said when the girl is black!

According to Yahoo.com, Levi will be joining the Parlin family at the GOP convention.

Levi's mother said that he is no longer a student, but would not confirm whether or not he graduated. She said that information should come from him. She stated that teens were planning to marry before Bristol got pregnant. That is just a bonus, she said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080902/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin_daughter

I am really done with this story. This is ridiculous.

Like Larry King asked, "Is this the best that the Republican can do?"

Such crap. Republicans really know how to try and spin some bullcrap. A bonus my behind.

These are the very people that want to dictate how you live your life but those rules and standards only apply to everyone else, not them.

They got pregnant while still in high school and its cause for celebration in their "spin this like there is no tomorrow" eyes. I just can't believe the nerve they have to try and act like this is THEIR version of family values.

Next will see them on one of those many wedding story shows. They'll probably have a special web site where you can vote for Bristol's dress, vote for the couple's rings.

I have a very conservative Republican associate who gets on my last nerve with her judgmental ass but at least she stayed true to her personal beliefs. She called this what it is. And she was pissed Palin stated she and her husband are happy to be grandparents.

My question is, if they'd planned to get married, why aren't they married by now? After all the girl is five months along. I don't think she told them until just recently, otherwise you know they would've had her in front of the reverend by now. After all, a trip to the courthouse can be done on your lunchbreak. Hell, for that matter, mama's the governor, I'm sure she can marry them. Something is up with that whole scenario.

haphazardmusings September 3, 2008 at 12:23 PM

Shouldn't parents want what's best for their children? Mama got to go to college, have a career, and make something of herself. She married and had children at a much better time in her life (her mid-20s) than Bristol will. Not all teenage mothers turn out to be failures, and young marriage is not always the end of the world, but if anecdotal evidence and a sea of research is any indication, her success in life will never approach that of her mother's.

Why is it that the Republicans are all up in our faces about family values when they clearly lack the ability to teach their children some sense and to stay married/faithful themselves?
